WordPress Plugins Bugs
Plugins are cool. Every WordPress powered blog uses different plugins. They give your blog wings. There are few things you must be aware of before using plugins. What I do, I just test the plugin before I actually use it. All the plugins out there are not trustworthy. Even if any plugin comes by a trusted source, it can have bugs which will make your blogging life a bit complicated. I regularly check plugins, update plugins whenever any update is available and remove the plugin which contain any bug. Here are few popular WPplugins I noticed some bugs in them recently.
WP Super Cache Bug
WP Super Cache is a very fast caching engine for WordPress that produces static html files and does more to speed up your blog. I noticed that mostly when I cleared my blog cache manually, I hit Internal Server Error. Whenever I was publishing a new post, I got hit by Internal Server Error Page. Whenever your server kills a script to avoid heavy load or resources management, it will redirect the request to Internal Server Error Page. Okay now there is an option about ‘Clear all cache files when a post or page is published’ which also significantly slows down saving of posts. Whenever I was publishing new post, It was clearing cache and I was getting that error page, although the post was saving successfully and the cache was being cleared but the server got some problem with this feature of plugin. I think the authors of this useful plugin should seriously consider optimizing the plugin.

Now this is a blog security plugin. I have been using it and its a very good way to block bad spiders or requests. WPIDS utilizes the PHPIDS for protecting your blog. This plugin checks all input parameters against a highly tested rule set against attack patterns. If PHPIDS detects some suspicious input the request will be blocked and logged to protect you and your blog from possible harm.
There is an option in this plugin which says:
“Use JSON filter rules which may increase performance a little bit”
Okay now when I use this option, my blog posts pages give fatal error relating to JSON.
There is another funny bug. By enabling Lockdown Framebreaker feature in it which is supposed to prevent evil sites from including your site on their domain, your blog’s image uploader won’t work. Whenever I am trying to upload an image it is redirecting me towards the home page. Disabling above mentioned features will result in normal performance of blog.
Twitter Tools Bug
Twitter Tools is a plugin that creates a complete integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account. Basically you can poke your pals at Twitter with this plugin, whenever you publish new post automatically. Cool, eh! You need to give your Twitter account info in plugin settings to make this plugin work for you. Well now Twitter seems to be updated. Twitter won’t allow login now from third party as I have seen with this plugin so this plugin won’t work.

SEO Smart Links Bug
SEO Smart Links can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog. SEO Smart links can also open external links in new window and add nofollow attribute too.
I used to target blankly (target=_blank) manually before for external links. This plugin made my life easy. If I have 60 external links in post, then I do not need to target them blank manually. The plugin does it. Okay now I know it and I do not write target=_blank myself. What about the old posts??? I have used target=_blank in many many posts previously. What this plugin does? It adds target blank in that URL also which contains target blank already. Attribute Duplication. W3C validation problem. Turn off.
