Mars One Settlement Program Closed Applications for First Selection of Astronauts

Mars One called for inhabitants for Mars some time ago. They closed applications for first selection for astronauts. Mars One has mission to colonize Mars. First group of astronauts will go there on 2023 to never return back. Six billion US Dollars mission ready to accept any healthy, smart and mentally stable person from around the world, has completed its first stage of selection. In 5 months 202,586 people from around the world showed interest in participating this program.

Mars One applicants came from over 140 countries. The largest numbers (24%) are from the United States and more are given below:

Mars One Selection Committee will select prospective Martian settlers in three additional rounds spread across two years. By 2015, six to ten teams of four individuals will be selected for seven years of full-time training. In 2023, one of these teams will become the first humans ever to land on Mars and live there for the rest of their lives.

The current applicants will be screened by the Mars One Selection Committee that will take several months time. Candidates selected to pass to the next round will be notified by the end of 2013. The second round of selection will start in 2014, where the candidates will be interviewed in person by a Mars One Selection Committee.
