Icon Search Engines

Recently I came across two brilliant Icon Search Engines which provide high quality icons in PNG format with transparent background. All icons are free and ready to use in your next design project or at your website or blog.

Iconlet is simple search engine for free icons, images. Ok, it’s simple but has few nice features. For every image user get information about author, image resolution, graphics format and license type. Just type name in search window and you will get a list o available icons, images which you can use in your project. If you are a icons creator and want to add your content to Iconlet just send them an email with icons download link and license type information.

The best search engine for icons. All the icons are in PNG-format. The benefit of PNG-images is the alpha-channel, meaning that pixels can be transparent. Do not copy-paste icons into eg. Photoshop, since icons will loose their alpha-channel information. Instead, use the download-link to save icons locally. If you wish to submit icons, then forward an email martin.leblanc1[at]gmail.com with icons attached in a compressed format. Include information about the icon designer and the license. The icons should be in PNG-format and with transparent background and in one or more of the following sizes (in pixels): 12 x 12, 16 x 16, 22 x 22, 32 x 32, 48 x 48, 64 x 64 or 128 x 128. Remember to name the icons with useful names as “computer.png”.
