How to Easily Upgrade iPhone OS

Here is a quick way to upgrade iPhone OS. You can update your iPhone 3.0 firmware via iTunes 8.1 by following these steps:

Connect your iPhone to your computer.
Open iTunes. When iTunes opens, select your iPhone under Devices in the Source List.
Click Check for Updates in iPhone Summary pane.
Click Download and Install. Do not disconnect your iPhone until the update has finished.
