How To Disable WordPress Core Update Notification

by on December 1st, 2008

It’s very important that you keep your WordPress installation(s) up to date. If you don’t, your blog or website could be susceptible to security vulnerabilities or performance issues. If you use this plugin, you must make sure you keep yourself informed of new WordPress releases and update your WordPress installation(s) as new versions are released.

Disable WordPress Core Update Plugin Completely disables the core update checking system in WordPress. The plugin prevents WordPress from checking for updates, and prevents any notifications from being displayed in the admin area.

Is there a way of adding this to the functions.php file instead of installing the plug-in? I need to cut down on the amount of plug-ins that I’m using @ my blog.

@Sumeet Chawla: And why do you want to disable core update notification? Seriously its vital for blog to be updated as soon as a new update is available.

@Sumeet Chawla: Yep plugins are good choice, but dear you know plugins eat up a lot of server resources. Huge resources!!! Plugins eat up a lot of RAM and CPU and u have to pay more for hosting. I would recommend everybody to use less plugins for WP. Plugins make blog heavy, it takes time in loading, they can make ur blog vulnerable because not all the plugins come from trusted sources and not all plugins get updated at regular basis.

  4. Thanks for the info! I was thinking of modifying the internal code to do it but that would be over written when ever I update it. Plugin would be the best choice :)

Very cool tip. I hate update yellow bar saying new version is released, go and get it. And that notification comes at the top of every admin page. May be they should display it at in the dashboard.
