Gravatars For Emails – Your Global Display Photo for Gmail

by on March 16th, 2009

A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is an image (your graphical identity) that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums. Just proceed to this site, add your email addrerss, image and you are done. Now where ever you will post online (be it in forums or blogs), your display picture will appear there. Cool!

You can use gravatars for your email programs. For Gmail it can be done with support of GreaseMonkey API. This adds a Gravatar of the person the email was from to Gmail when reading an individual message.

There is a very cool Thunderbird plugin too, called MessageFaces which, after you enable the option in the plugin preferences, will show gravatars in the header section of the email messages you view.

Further more you can download the script here for Gmail.
