by on March 4th, 2010

As much as you use your computer it would start to slow down gradually, and its overall performance and response time start decreasing. Its time to defrag your PC physical drives. When you add / delete files on your computer hard disk, these files get scattered there in an irregular manner and by the passage of time cause the computer to take longer in accessing and locating these files so resulting in slowing down your computer. That’s why, you need to defrag the file system every now and then to keep your computer running at its best level. Windows has a built-in defragmentation tool called the Disk Defragmenter, but it is said not to be so much efficient. Here are 10 plus free best alternatives for windows default Defragmenter.

Great list of free programs, many are very good!

One of my favourite free programs to use is “SmartDefrag” its 100% free and works great, I found it from a magazine.

But I do find that businesses and schools don’t always feel safe using “free” defrag software as they feel that “free” means “cheap” another way of getting it over to them is to say its “Opensource” as that sounds much better.

I have setup numerous schools and companies with Defrag Software and the software of choice for me would always be TuneUp or O&O Defrag as both of those optimize when the computer is on screen saver, or does it automatically.

TuneUp can keep computers running and extend there life without having to format because it simply optimizes and cleans everything! (Including Defrag!)

I hope this helps you make your mind up on what program to use, and if you have the money commercial programs.

Once agian, thanks for your great post!
