A guest asked that he is facing a problem with USB device detection that if he plugs it in USB connector it is not recognized by the Windows and he is unable to use the USB drive. The error message can be like “unrecognized device has been found” or “USB not recognized” or similar. It is a common problem and can be solved by many simple ways. Here is how to fix usb device not recognized error in Windows.

Un-Plug and Re-Plug USB Device

First simple thing to do is it to unplug and re-plug the USB device in system. Unplug the USB device, and then plug the device back into the computer. If your computer still does not recognize the device then here are few more workarounds.

Re-install Driver from Device Manager

Click start and type devmgmt.msc
Hit Enter
Device Manager will be opened
Scan for hardware changes
Scroll down to USB devices
Right click on “unknown device” and select uninstall
Unplug the USB drive and plug it back in

Windows will try to install the driver for the device. If it does not install it, remove the unknown device again and try a different USB port and plug it back in.

Power Down PC

If that method does not solve the problem then Power down PC completely for three minutes. Physically unplug the computer. If it’s a laptop, remove the battery too. After about three minutes, re-plug the desktop or re-insert the laptop battery. Power on the system and the problem should be solved now.
