With Facebook launching a news related stand-alone app, it is not only imitating the existing Flipboard news app, but also attempting to create a more ‘mature’ Facebook experience for its users. When referring to the term ‘original users’, the term applies to 90’s kids. The Generation Y, who were the first to explore social networking in its infancy. Facebook has just turned 10, with the majority of its users signing up in 2006-2007, after the University email address only restriction was lifted. In that year alone, Facebook went from 12 million users to 50 million users. Facebook was cool and fresh when it started. Most importantly, it was a whole new way for people to interact with each other. Ten years on and Facebook has survived law suits, privacy issues, and cat pictures and it will continue to outlast passing trends, such as ‘NekNominations’ and Selfies.

Facebook is going through a transition, and like every transition, there are positives and negatives. One of the obvious negatives is that Facebook is losing the support of the younger generations. More often and often it is heard that Facebook is losing the teenagers. While statistics back up that statement that there has been a 25% decline within the 13-17 age group and an 8% decline in the 18-24 year old age group since 2011, the question of why is often an unsatisfactory attempt at the answer.

Facebook displays updates in a timeline view and an infinite scroll of page that is sometimes irritating (scroll). Facebook timeline, however enables you to view updates in a sequence these were posted. You can also quickly select a time period (year) to browse updates from that year. I have not felt need to change name for my Facebook account yet, but a guest asked that how can he change his first and last name on Facebook. You can change your display name for Facebook account from Facebook settings. You can also add an alternative name or nick name for Facebook account. In the upper right corner of the Facebook page, click on gear icon and select ‘Account Settings’. In ‘General’ tab, under general account settings first editable option is name. You can edit that to change your name for Facebook account – BUT NOT SO FAST! Few Facebook users try to change their name and get the following error. “We require everyone to use their real name on Facebook.” Facebook won’t allow you to change your name easily, because Facebook has certain policies and rules for name changes.
