How To Set Password For Hard Disk

by Hiroshi on 23-02-2009

There is a builtin ultimate security option for computer data in hard disk drives. You may have tried Main-board (BIOS or CMOS) password and windows password protection. I am going to tell you that there is a way you can password protect your hard disk drive.

It is not a very well known fact, but all hard disks have a very strong hardware password capability build in. This password is usually stored both in a chip on the HD controller (the printed circuit board on the hard disk) and on the hard disk itself in a special hidden sector.

For security/protection conscious geeks, it is possible to lock your hard disk with password. A lot of newer laptops will set the HD password together with the BIOS password, completely locking all the hardware for security measures.

Collect All Hardware Information - Motherboard, System, CPU, Memory

by Hiroshi on 19-12-2008

Yesterday my office computer Windows Software was updated but I could not find the right version of Windows Audio Drivers for its Mainboard version. Obviously you have to look for mainboard model information to get the right drivers for VGA or Sound. I did not wanted to open up my PC hardware. Adeel (colleague) helped me out in finding Mainboard model using CPU-Z. CPU-Z collects important information about your PC and displays these to you. Obviously once you know the Mainboard model and number then you can get its VGA and Sound drivers from relevant website (vendor).

CPU-Z is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system.

  • CPU Name and number.
  • CPU Core stepping and process.
  • CPU Package.
  • CPU Core voltage.
  • CPU Internal and external clocks, clock multiplier.
  • CPU Supported instructions sets.
  • CPU Cache information.
  • Mainboard Vendor, model and revision.
  • Mainboard BIOS model and date.
  • Mainboard Chipset (northbridge and southbridge) and sensor.
  • Mainboard Graphic interface.
  • Memory Frequency and timings.
  • Memory Module(s) specification using SPD (Serial Presence Detect) : vendor, serial number, timings table.
  • System Windows and DirectX version.

Difference between Simple Intel Pentium and Intel Core™2 Duo

by Hiroshi on 30-10-2007

If you are planning to buy a new PC than Core™2 Duo is definately the best next generation hardware choice. It is said that performance of Pentium 4 - 3.4 GHZ is equal to 1.8 GHZ Pentium Core™2 Duo Processor.

Pentium D is nothing but 2 Prescott Processors side by side … runs very hot, not a good OverClocker.

Intel Core 2 Duo processors are next gen processors from Intel on 65 nm platform, developed from Ground up with new Architecture called Core, so they are whole new Processors just Jump like Pentium 2 to Pentium 3 or Pentium 4.

Intel Core™2 Duo offers real time multi-tasking performance and will replace all previous Pentium processors.

Lets See What Microsoft says about Core™2 Duo

Maximum everything. Energy-efficient performance. Multimedia power.
Based on revolutionary Intel® Core™ microarchitecture, the breakthrough Intel® Core™2 Duo processor family is designed to provide powerful energy-efficient performance so you can do more at once without slowing down.

With Intel® Core™2 Duo processor, you'll experience revolutionary performance, unbelievable system responsiveness, and energy-efficiency second to none. And, you won't have to slow down for virus scan, multiple compute intensive programs, or multimedia downloads, these desktop processors are up to 40 percent faster with improved energy-efficiency.

Features and benefits

Delivering the best overall performance. Period.
With Intel Core 2 Duo processors powering your desktop and laptop PCs you'll get the latest arsenal of performance-rich technologies, including up to 4MB of shared L2 cache, up to 1333 MHz front side bus for desktop, and up to 800 MHz front side bus for laptop, you've got the future of computing now, and only from Intel:

Intel® Wide Dynamic Execution, enabling delivery of more instructions per clock cycle to improve execution time and energy efficiency

Intel® Intelligent Power Capability, designed to deliver more energy-efficient performance and smarter battery performance in your laptop

Intel® Smart Memory Access, improving system performance by optimizing the use of the available data bandwidth

Intel® Advanced Smart Cache, providing a higher-performance, more efficient cache subsystem. Optimized for multi-core and dual-core processors

Intel® Advanced Digital Media Boost, accelerating a broad range of applications, including video, speech and image, photo processing, encryption, financial, engineering and scientific applications
