Block Any Website for Specific Computer
Orkut, FaceBook, YouTube, Twitter, Digg are great sites to waste time on the internet. Well you can spend quality time there to build your network or you can sit all the day long playing FarmVille. You have got to set some limits to protect your kids wasting their time. The good news is, you can block any website for a specific PC at home using hosts file. Here is how to do it.
Open the file “c:windowssystem32driversetchosts” in notepad or go to Start > Run and type / copy-paste c:windowssystem32driversetchosts. Choose open with notepad in the option. The contents of the file will be displayed and will be something like this:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space.
Add these lines at the bottom of the file.
127.0.0.1 www.orkut.com 127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com 127.0.0.1 www.twitter.com 127.0.0.1 www.digg.com 127.0.0.1 www.youtube.com
Save the file and exit the notepad. In some cases system restart is needed.
The above lines will block Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, Digg and Youtube for that PC. Remove these lines to unblock these sites again.
