Apple iPad mini news and rumors have been all over the web from quite sometime now. Question is, will Apple consider launching iPad Mini, when late Steve Jobs already had opposed the idea of smaller screen for a tablet.

Steve Jobs expressed his thoughts for smaller screen tablets as below:

The 10″ screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps. 7″ tablets are tweeners – big to compete with a smartphone, and too small to compete with an iPad. Apple has done extensive testing and really understands this stuff. Apple understands limits to how close you can place elements for usability and why 10″ is minimum size for great tablet apps. Every tablet user is also smartphone user. Tablets are not to fit into pockets. New tablets from competitors will be 7″ – that is too small. Companies will increase their size next year and abandon customers and developers who bought and worked for 7″ tablet. 7″ is too small to express the right software.

Steve Jobs made it clear that Apple was not interested in making a smaller iPad. But what about all these rumors and fuss about Apple iPad Mini? With Samsung Galaxy Note and Amazon Kindle Fire, Apple is said to release iPad Mini in October 2012. If smaller screen tablets idea is a flop then what about Kindle Fire which has been selling really well?

Steve Jobs said that 7-inch tablets are not good enough, but after two years market conditions today, are much different. If not the 7-inch, Apple might be working on a 7.8-inch version of iPad mini. People or software developers may not like the smaller iPad mini screen, they will be sure to like the smaller price tag of iPad mini. With cheaper, smaller Amazon Kindle Fire tablet and Google Nexus tablet, Apple is sure to do something about the smaller screen tablet to capture the market in this area.
